Hi there,

I'm wondering if you're working on the ability to also suggest relational meta tags from the actual extracted content tags. For instance, if you extracted the tags "McCain" and "Obama" from an article, could you automatically suggest the tags "2008 presidential election" or "politics"?

Could Calais learn to do this if it had  a body of content, tagged by humans, to base associations on? Like http://www.giveback.net for example?

This is absolutely something we're thinking about - just trying to find the right mechanism. We'll take a look at giveback.net.

We've done manual experiments with Delicious - finding posts that contain Obama and McCain for example almost always returns good "human" tags like Politics, Election, etc. Unfortunately - Delicious doesn't supply an API that will allow us to do this automagically.

We're open to ideas that are not built on some sort of rigid heirarchy/etc - we think a big part of the value here is simply generating "topical" tags for relatively current events.
